Hank Aaron’s Speech after HR #756

Hammerin’ Hank’s speech after Barry Bonds broke the home run record.

The full transcript of Hank Aaron’s speech:

“I would like to offer my congratulations to Barry Bonds on becoming baseball’s career home run leader. It is a great accomplishment which required skill, longevity and determination,” Aaron said.

“Throughout the past century, the home run has held a special place in baseball, and I have been privileged to hold this record for 33 of those years. I move over now and offer my best wishes to Barry and his family on this historical achievement.

“My hope today, as it was on that April evening in 1974, is that the achievement of this record will inspire others to chase their own dreams.”

Here’s a photo of Hank Aaron’s jersey that I took last month at FanFest:

Yahoo! Sports Mocks Bonds’ HR Record

Yahoo Sports! pulled a smart-ass move tonight. Shortly after Bonds hit HR #756, they posted a photo of Bonds with the number 756 followed by an asterisk. They removed the asterisk about a half hour later. They also featured a ‘Got Steroids’ photo with a link to a real hatchet job by columnist Dan Wetzel. See below for the before and after images.

Before:

756*

After (no asterisk):
